The rescue and relief operation in the cloudburst-hit Kishtwar enters its 6th day on Tuesday, with authorities intensifying the search for the missing persons. The rescue teams of the Indian Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local volunteers, have been working tirelessly to trace the 39 missing people as three more bodies were recovered from the site.

A female body was recovered from the downstream earlier this morning after the rescuers began their search amid improved weather conditions. Meanwhile, another person’s body part was recovered by the sniffer dogs from the debris of the house; however, the officials said it belonged to the body part that was recovered on the first day.

According to officials, 167 people were rescued, while the number of missing dropped to 39 after a fresh revision list was released on Monday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, SDRF, Masoof Ahmad Mirza, said, “The rescue operation restarted this morning with the recovery of one more body. The impact area of the cloudburst is vast, and so it is taking time. We have cleared a large area upstream, and now we are sending a team downstream as well".

Meanwhile, the Indian Army's Jammu-based White Knight Corps, in a post on X, informed that five relief columns of the force are engaged in the rescue and relief operations, and efforts have been further intensified with additional medical teams deployed.

Besides using heavy machinery to remove the large boulders hampering the rescue operations, the rescuers conducted over half a dozen explosions in the three days.

The annual Machail Mata yatra, which began on July 25 and was scheduled to conclude on September 5, remained suspended for the sixth consecutive day on Tuesday.
