One of the key raids took place at 6 Tarak Dutt Road near the Karaya police station in South Kolkata, where ED officials arrived early in the morning at the residence of lawyer Munmun Banerjee and her husband Debashis Banerjee.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a series of raids across Kolkata on Monday as part of its investigation into a major medical admission scam involving corruption under the NRI quota across the country. Locations raided include areas in Ballygunge, Kadeya and New Town.

One of the key raids took place at 6 Tarak Dutt Road near the Karaya police station in South Kolkata, where ED officials arrived early in the morning at the residence of lawyer Munmun Banerjee and her husband Debashis Banerjee.

The ED is probing allegations of large-scale irregularities in medical college admissions. According to sources, fake certificates were allegedly used in exchange for bribes to admit ineligible candidates under the NRI quota, thereby depriving deserving students of rightful seats.

In New Town, the agency also raided the fourth floor of a building located at CE 28, which housed a coaching center named Education World. “This location is linked to Sourav Saha, who is suspected to have played the role of a middleman in the fraudulent admissions process,” said an ED officer.

Previously, the ED had conducted searches at the residence of former Tamluk MP Laxman Seth in Haldia, as well as at a medical and dental college operated by a voluntary organization. These actions are part of a broader investigation that has spread across the country.

The Supreme Court had earlier voiced its concern over such practices, which reportedly extend beyond West Bengal to 28 private medical colleges across India. Following the court’s remarks, central agencies intensified their investigations.

The ED continues its probe into how fake documentation and bribes were used to manipulate the medical admission process under the NRI quota, indicating that more developments may follow in the coming days.
