Trinamool Congress MP, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, has announced to join the ongoing protest against the heinous rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. 

Writing via social media platform X, the leader said, "Tomorrow I am going to join the protesters particularly because I’ve a daughter and little granddaughter like millions of Bengali families. We must rise to the occasion. Enough of cruelty against women. Let’s resist together. Come what may." 

The victim, a second-year postgraduate student, was found dead on August 9, with multiple lacerations and wounds on her body, sparking widespread outrage.

The crime occurred in a seminar hall on the third floor of the chest department late at night, with the main accused, Sanjoy Roy, arrested thus far. 

However, the police have not ruled out the possibility of others being involved in the crime, as the investigation continues.

In a significant development, the Calcutta High Court has handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday, ensuring a thorough probe into the incident.
