Hundreds of people gathered in Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl, on Friday evening to hold a candlelight vigil in memory of 11 members of the Hmar-Mizo community killed in Manipur's Jiribam district.

Organised by the Mizo Defence League, the solemn event took place in front of Vanapa Hall, where participants expressed grief and anger over the tragic deaths.

Protesters raised slogans condemning the killing of a Hmar tribal woman, a mother of three, in Zairawn village near Jiribam town on 7 November.

Outrage also centred on the death of ten more individuals belonging to the Hmar-Mizo community, reportedly killed by security forces in Jakuradhor, Jiribam, on 11 November.

The demonstrators criticised both the Manipur government and the Central administration for "failing to contain the ethnic violence between the Meitei people and the Kuki-Zo community."

They demanded immediate steps to end the ongoing unrest and ensure justice for the victims.

Additionally, the protesters called for the prompt handover of the bodies of the 10 individuals currently lying at the mortuary of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Assam to their families for funeral rites.
