The death toll from the Kulgam terror attack has risen to two after another migrant worker succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. Officials confirmed that the terrorists targeted the labourers at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of South Kashmir late on Friday evening.
The attack is the second in less than 10 days. In an earlier attack, a Jammu and Kashmir policeman was killed in Anantnag district.
Attacks on migrant workers are not an isolated case. Earlier in 2024, two labourers were shot dead in the summer capital Srinagar.
The two labourers, identified as Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih, both residents of Punjab, were shot dead by a terrorist in the Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar.
The latest attack has attracted sharp condemnation and criticism from political and security circles in the Union Territory. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat directed security forces to intensify anti-terror operations and ensure those involved in the act are brought to justice.
In a post on X, the lieutenant governor said he had directed security forces to step up operations to eliminate the terrorists involved in the attack.
