The Leh Apex Body (LAB) has strongly criticized claims suggesting foreign involvement in the recent Leh violence, terming such assertions as baseless and misleading.

Ashraf Ali, a senior member of LAB, said that the protests which turned violent on September 24 were driven by local frustration and had no external influence. “To project the agitation as being controlled by foreign hands is not only untrue but also an insult to the people of Ladakh,” he stated. He added that some non-local labourers from Nepal, Doda, and other areas were caught in the clashes, with several sustaining injuries. According to Ali, nearly 90 civilians were injured during police action on the day of the violence.

LAB has reiterated its demand for a judicial inquiry into the incident to ascertain accountability, including who ordered the police firing.

Among the four people killed were a 23-year-old student and a 42-year-old member of Ladakh Scouts. The apex body said attempts to divert attention by invoking foreign elements would not address the underlying issues that have triggered unrest in Ladakh.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Councillor (HCEC) of LAHDC Leh has expressed profound grief and outrage over the tragic firing on unarmed protesters on September 24, 2025, which claimed the lives of four young individuals and left several others injured.

Standing in solidarity with the people of Ladakh, the HCEC reiterated his unwavering commitment to the path of peace, justice, and healing.

In a letter addressed to the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, the HCEC urged the constitution of an independent and impartial judicial inquiry at the earliest to thoroughly examine the circumstances leading to the incident. He stressed that justice must be fair, transparent, and timely, ensuring accountability while restoring public trust. The HCEC further appealed for a careful review of all arrests made in connection with the incident, emphasizing that no innocent person should be harassed or wrongly implicated. Those found innocent must be released without delay, as prolonged detention causes deep distress and unnecessary hardship to their families.

Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, the HCEC stated that the firing on unarmed protesters has shaken the faith of the people. “I stand in solidarity with the people of Ladakh in their grief and their demand for peace, justice, and accountability,” he said.

He also requested the  Lieutenant Governor to ensure adequate compensation, comprehensive assistance, and long-term support for all those affected by the tragedy. At this critical juncture, the HCEC underlined that the people of Ladakh must be supported with compassion, sensitivity, and justice.
