Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Friday that the monthly financial aid under the Ladli Behna Yojana would be increased from the current ₹1,250 to ₹1,500 after Diwali.
He was speaking at a function in Petlawad in the tribal-dominated Jhabua district, where he transferred more than ₹1,541 crore into the bank accounts of 1.26 crore women beneficiaries of the scheme. "Beneficiaries will receive ₹1,500 per month after Diwali under the scheme. Assistance will be raised to ₹3,000 by 2028," Yadav said.
He also criticised the Congress, saying leaders of the opposition party "feel pain in their stomachs when we give respect to our sisters." He added, "They (Congress leaders) claim women use the BJP's money to buy liquor. This is an insult, and the state will not tolerate it."
According to officials, a special budget of ₹27,147 crore had been allocated for women, with ₹18,699 crore specifically earmarked for the Ladli Behna Yojana. The scheme was launched on June 10, 2023, and proved to be a game-changer for the BJP, which won by a landslide against the Congress in the November 2023 assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh.
Yadav also transferred ₹320.89 crore to more than 5.34 million pension beneficiaries of the Social Security Pension Scheme and over ₹48 crore in LPG refill subsidies for 3.1 million women.
Speaking at the event, Yadav announced that a medical college would be established in Jhabua. He also paid tribute to the victims of the Petlawad blast on its anniversary, where more than 85 people were killed on September 12, 2015, when mining explosives stored in a building detonated.
Yadav noted that farmers in Jhabua are hardworking and that tomatoes grown in Petlawad are being exported. During the event, he released the book, Jhabua ke Sanjeevak, which documents tribal Ayurvedic traditions, and distributed motorised four-wheel scooters to 11 persons with disabilities.
Yadav also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the PM MITRA Park at Bhainsola on September 17, which is expected to promote cotton cultivation and generate employment. The Chief Minister dedicated and laid the foundation stones for more than 72 development projects costing ₹345.34 crore.
The programme began with a traditional 'kanya pujan' and the lighting of a ceremonial lamp in the presence of state ministers Nirmala Bhuria and Kunwar Vijay Shah, as well as MP Anita Nagar Singh Chauhan. Bhuria welcomed Yadav by presenting him with a bow, arrow, and a traditional sword.
