The District Administration of Lahaul and Spiti is set to host Himachal Pradesh’s first eco-friendly Tribal Festival in 2025. The event will blend traditional customs with modern sustainability. It is supported by Tribal Affairs, TRIFED, the North Zone Cultural Centre, and the state government, and aims to set new standards for eco-conscious public events.
In the run-up to the festival, the community has taken part in yoga, poetry, local sports and activities celebrating the unique tribal heritage of Lahaul & Spiti.
Led by Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana, the festival will focus on reducing environmental impact. Green measures include a ban on single-use plastics and the use of refillable water stations.
Under Bhadana’s leadership, the festival will be more than a celebration. It will be a tribute to the indigenous communities of the region, showcasing a rich mix of tradition and sustainability. It also aims to be a model for eco-friendly cultural events in India, in line with the country’s push for green tourism and heritage preservation.
