Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), asserting that Bihar had witnessed ‘jungle raj’ during the tenure of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi.
Addressing a function in Patna, Shah accused RJD supremo Lalu Prasad of failing to contribute to the development of Bihar and neglecting the rural economy.
“Lalu-Rabri regime will be remembered for promoting 'jungle raj' in Bihar. He (Lalu) did nothing for the development and strengthening of Bihar’s rural economy. Several sugar mills were closed during the RJD’s government,” Shah alleged.
The Home Minister further claimed that Bihar during the RJD regime was marred by crime and corruption.
“Murders, abduction, fodder scam, etc., were rampant under their rule,” he said.
Emphasising that the people of Bihar were unwilling to see a return of such an era, Shah asserted, “People don’t want the return of ‘jungle raj’, gang war and abduction industry in Bihar. The NDA will once again form government in the state with a thumping majority in the assembly polls.”
The Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to take place later this year.
Shah also contrasted financial allocations to Bihar under different governments, stating that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre had provided only Rs 2.80 lakh crore to the state, while the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had allocated Rs 9.23 lakh crore.
During his visit, Shah unveiled multiple schemes and laid foundation stones for development projects in Bihar worth over Rs 800 crore.
As part of his ministerial duties in the cooperation sector, Shah announced projects including Rs 111 crore from the cooperative department and Rs 421 crore from the urban development and housing department.
Additionally, he inaugurated the construction of 133 police buildings at an estimated cost of Rs 181 crore and launched three road transport and national highway projects worth Rs 109 crore.
