A Lamborghini car belonging to the son of a tobacco businessman was released from police custody after the owner furnished a bond of Rs 8.5 crore in connection with a February 8 crash.
The luxury vehicle, owned by Shivam Mishra, son of businessman K.K. Mishra, was released from the Gwaltoli police station following orders of Chief Judicial Magistrate Suraj Mishra on Friday night. Shivam’s counsel, Dharmendra Singh, said the court had directed that the vehicle be released upon submission of sureties, including personal bonds and a surety equivalent to the value of the car.
“In compliance with the order, a bond amount of Rs 8.5 crore was furnished, after which the vehicle was released from the police station,” the lawyer said.
Shivam, who was arrested after the crash, had moved a petition seeking release of the vehicle. The court appointed advocate Sunil Kumar to represent him and sought technical examination reports and a police report before deciding on the plea. After reviewing the submissions, the court allowed the release petition.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Srivastava said the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Shivam was earlier granted bail on February 12 on an undertaking of Rs 20,000 and a personal bond of Rs 20,000.
The case took a new turn when a man identified as Mohan claimed he was the designated driver and was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. However, police rejected the claim, stating that CCTV footage of the incident established that Shivam was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.
