Suspended Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora has been arrested again by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell in connection with an alleged land fraud case, officials said.

According to sources, the action followed a complaint lodged by the District Commissioner and Additional District Commissioner of Barpeta, prompting the Vigilance Cell to register a fresh case against Bora. The agency registered an FIR (No. 32/25) based on the complaint.

Investigators have alleged that Nupur illegally recorded the names of nearly 50 individuals in land documents without adhering to mandatory registration procedures. Authorities further claimed that land mutations were carried out in violation of established rules and norms. Sources stated that the land records were allegedly altered in exchange for large sums of money, bypassing official processes designed to ensure transparency and legality in land ownership.

The latest arrest comes amid intensified action by authorities against alleged corruption. Vigilance officials had earlier arrested Nupur in connection with the similar irregularities. During a search operation at her residence, officials reportedly recovered more than ₹1 crore in cash.

Nupur is also accused of amassing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income. Investigators alleged that in 2024, land measuring 3 bigha, 3 katha and 15 lecha near Barpeta Satra was transferred in the name of one Hayat Khan, reportedly at Nupur’s direction.

During multiple raids, the Vigilance team seized ₹92.5 lakh in cash, along with luxury watches, expensive clothing and gold and diamond jewellery valued at several crores. Officials further revealed that Nupur operated nine bank accounts and maintained lockers in Barpeta and Golaghat.

Investigators also found that she owns residential flats in Jalukbari and land plots in Beltola and Jalukbari. According to sources, Nupur has drawn a cumulative salary of approximately ₹45 lakh during her service tenure.
