The Yamunotri National Highway has been blocked at two points between Silai Band and Ojri after portions of the road were washed away due to heavy rain, officials confirmed.
In a social media update, the Uttarkashi Police shared: “The Yamunotri National Highway is blocked at two places between Silai Band and Ojri. Due to sections of the road being washed out, it may take some time to restore the route.”
The police also noted that the stretch between Brahmkhal and Mahargaon is blocked because of debris. Clearing work is currently underway at both sites.
"Additionally, the Yamunotri Highway is blocked near Brahmkhal and Mahargaon due to debris, and work to clear it is ongoing," the post further read.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) reported that Tehri Garhwal received an average of 79.2 mm of rainfall on Sunday.
The heavy downpour has also impacted power and water supply in several areas. Agrakhaal, Chamba, Jakhindhar, and Dughamandar are facing electricity outages, while the Chamba block’s water supply has been disrupted.
Char Dham Yatra suspension lifted
Meanwhile, the 24-hour suspension of the Char Dham Yatra, which was put in place following a heavy rain alert, has now been lifted, officials confirmed.
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “The 24-hour ban on the Char Dham Yatra has been lifted.”
However, he added that District Magistrates along the Yatra route have been instructed to monitor local weather conditions and stop vehicle movement if needed to ensure public safety.
The Yatra had been temporarily halted after a cloudburst near Barkot triggered a massive landslide, resulting in the tragic deaths of two workers, with seven still missing.
While the Barkot–Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district was damaged, swift repair work was carried out.
Meanwhile, search operations for the missing workers continue as authorities work to restore full access and ensure the safety of pilgrims.
