Incessant heavy rainfall has triggered landslides across Sikkim, with Dentam in West Sikkim bearing the brunt of the destruction. The landslides have caused significant property damage and the loss of livestock, though no human casualties have been reported.

The unrelenting rain has destabilised the terrain, resulting in the destruction of several houses and the death of numerous cattle.

Local authorities are currently assessing the full extent of the damage and are working to provide relief to the affected residents.

Emergency response teams have been deployed to clear debris and restore access to blocked roads.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.

Efforts are underway to assist those impacted by the landslides, with the government and local agencies coordinating relief operations.

These efforts include providing evacuation facilities, temporary shelter, food, and medical aid to those displaced by the disaster.

Earlier on Wednesday, rescue operations in North Sikkim concluded with the evacuation of the remaining 158 stranded tourists, as reported by Mangan District Magistrate Hem Kumar Chettri.

Over the past three days, a total of 1,447 stranded tourists have been successfully evacuated. On Tuesday alone, 1,225 tourists were rescued, followed by 64 on Monday.

“With the rescue of 158 tourists on the final day, all 1,447 stranded tourists have been evacuated,” stated Chettri. The coordinated efforts have ensured the safety and well-being of all those affected by the severe weather conditions.
