Left out of list, Vij says he will be watching all of Haryana

Haryana minister Anil Vij.

Haryana minister Anil Vij on Thursday brushed aside the fact that his name was missing from the list of MLAs appointed as in-charges for the 42 Assembly seats where the BJP lost in the 2024 state elections. He said that he has the responsibility of the entire state.

Speaking to mediapersons in Ambala, the senior BJP leader also said he plans to go on a state-wide tour soon.

Earlier this week, Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli named party MLAs as in-charges for the 42 constituencies currently held by Opposition leaders. These in-charges are expected to work at the grassroots level, connect with the public, identify development needs, and strengthen the party, according to sources.

When asked about not being assigned a seat, 72-year-old Vij, a seven-time MLA from Ambala Cantt, said, “See, others (other MLAs) were assigned a constituency each, but I have to oversee Haryana entirely. I am the senior-most (party) MLA and have won seven times. Soon, I will begin a state-wide tour to meet both new and veteran party workers across various locations and check on their well-being.”

Vij also warned government officials that he would be keeping an eye on the implementation of schemes during his visits.

He had won the 2024 Assembly elections from Ambala Cantt, defeating independent candidate Chitra Sarwara.

Vij has had a rocky relationship with former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is now a Union minister, and has made subtle jabs at current Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

In January, he expressed frustration that no action had been taken even 100 days after he raised concerns about some individuals, including officials, whom he believed contributed to his defeat.

Taking a dig at CM Saini, Vij said, “Since assuming office, he (Saini) has been on an 'udan khatola' (chopper). If he comes down, he will see the suffering of the people.”
