A Leh-bound SpiceJet flight on Tuesday morning returned to New Delhi airport due to an engine issue, an official said. There were around 150 passengers on board the Boeing 737 aircraft when it returned to the airport, the source added.
Flight SG121, which was scheduled to arrive in Leh, returned to New Delhi Airport a few minutes after take-off. A spokesperson for SpiceJet Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement, saying, “The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were disembarked normally." The aircraft engine had reportedly experienced a technical issue.
"A SpiceJet flight operating from Delhi to Leh on February 24 returned to Delhi after experiencing a technical issue,” an airline spokesperson added. "The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers disembarked normally. There was no fire warning in the cockpit,” he added.
Earlier in November, a similar SpiceJet Boeing 737 flight from Mumbai to Kolkata was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine failure. However, all passengers and crew members disembarked safely.
Before that, in September, a SpiceJet Q400 flight from Gujarat’s Kandla airport to Mumbai made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) after an outer wheel was found on the runway following take-off. A spokesperson for the airline later said in a statement that all passengers and crew had disembarked from the plane.
