A team of forest officials led by Forest Range Officer Vikramjit Singh rescued a leopard which had strayed into house in Dandoh village near Janauri in Hoshiarpur district on Tuesday night following a three-hour operation.

Divisional Forest Officer (Wildlife) Amneet Singh said that after getting the information, a rescue team rushed to the spot and found the animal inside a fodder room. The forest officials called two veterinarians who tranquilised the leopard, said to be around three years old, using a dart gun. The leopard was released into the forest the same night.

Dandoh is located on the edge of the Shivalik forest range, where the leopard population has gone up appreciably in recent years. Consequently, leopard sightings in villages near the forest have increased, said the DFO.
