Gunshots were allegedly fired at a statue of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in Dabwali, Haryana, sparking anger and sorrow among his fans and family. Moosewala’s mother, Charan Kaur, expressed her pain on Instagram, calling the act more than just vandalism, it was a deep emotional blow. “This is a wound to my soul. Even after his death, his enemies are not letting him be in peace,” she wrote in Punjabi.
Kaur said her son was not just an artist, but a voice for justice and the rights of people. “My son was a movement. His memory will live on. One day, the guilty will be punished. Our silence is not our defeat,” she added.
The controversy grew after JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala reportedly received a video from an international number showing someone firing at the statue. The message warned that Moosewala’s supporters could be the next targets.
The statue was installed in Dabwali last year by Chautala in the singer’s honour. A case has been registered in Dabwali (Sirsa district), and the police are now investigating.
“We are still verifying which statue was shown in the video. The investigation is underway,” said Dabwali City Police Station SHO Anil Kumar. Sidhu Moosewala, whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, was shot dead by gangsters in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, 2022. His death shocked the country and left a lasting impact on his fans.
