As the deadline for finalizing preparations for the annual pilgrimage draws near, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday chaired a high-level security review meeting at Lok Bhavan in Jammu to assess the current security situation and review preparedness for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. The key direction in the meeting emerged in terms of having coordination between security agencies for any emergency situation.
Senior police and administrative officials, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, participated in the meeting, which focused on law and order management and coordinated security arrangements.The meeting reviewed the overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, with particular emphasis on ensuring safe and smooth conduct of the annual Amarnath Yatra, a major pilgrimage that draws thousands of devotees.
Discussions also centered on strengthening preventive measures and maintaining heightened alertness across vulnerable areas, officials said.The Lieutenant Governor is understood to have stressed the need for seamless coordination among security agencies and timely response mechanisms to deal with any emerging situation.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing efforts under the administration’s drive to build a drug-free society, with focus on intensified action against narcotics and awareness initiatives.Officials discussed measures to further strengthen anti-drug campaigns and enforcement efforts as part of a broader strategy to curb substance abuse in the region.
Meanwhile, authorities on Tuesday reviewed arrangements for the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra at a high-level meeting and set June 10 as the deadline for completion of all works, including the facelift of the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu.The 57-day pilgrimage will commence on July 3 from the twin routes -- the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal district -- and conclude on August 28 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti chaired the meeting and reviewed preparations, including the action plan for setting up registration counters in Jammu and RFID centres at Lakhanpur, Bhagwati Nagar and other lodgement centres, officials said.Officials informed the meeting that token centres for on-the-spot and Tatkal registration would be set up at the Tawi riverfront to ease congestion and traffic issues near the railway station.
The Divisional Commissioner directed that all works be completed by June 10, including whitewashing, setting up stalls for bus ticket booking, langars, cloakroom facilities, and arrangements for accommodation, washrooms, power supply and lighting inside and outside the Bhagwati Nagar camp, they said.
