Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple in Ganderbal and prayed for peace and prosperity in the Union Territory, officials said on Monday.
Sinha offered prayers at the shrine of Goddess Ragnya Devi in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, where thousands of Kashmiri Pandits had gathered to celebrate the annual mela amid tight security arrangements.
The Lieutenant Governor also reviewed the arrangements made for devotees. During a brief interaction with the media, Sinha expressed satisfaction over the significantly higher turnout of devotees this year compared to the previous few years.
“We pray to Mata Kheer Bhawani for continued peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. He added that the administration had made all necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the festivities at the temple.
“We pray that Mata’s blessings continue to be upon the people,” he said.
The annual mela is held every year on Jyeshtha Ashtami.
