Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha has pledged to donate his organs by registering on the Ayushman Bharat Organ Donation Registry, managed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (notto.abdm.gov.in).
Dr. Elias Sharma, Nodal Officer of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), along with Dr. Sanjeev Puri, Joint Director, and Irfan Ahmed Lone, Transplant Coordinator, visited Raj Bhawan to present the pledge certificate to the LG.
Sandeep Jain, President of the Bharatiya Jain Sangathan, J&K, and Monika Jain, its General Secretary, were also present.
The Lieutenant Governor had earlier expressed his willingness to donate his organs during a programme organised by the Bharatiya Jain Sangathan on January 19.
In a message shared by the J&K Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) on social media platform X, LG Sinha called organ donation a "life-giving opportunity." He urged people to support this noble cause and requested SOTTO to include him in the list of organ donors.
The LG highlighted the importance of collective efforts to make organ transplants more affordable and accessible for all. He also suggested creating permanent help desks in hospitals to clear misconceptions and spread awareness about organ and tissue donation.
