Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has called upon people across the Union Territory to join a major public event aimed at building a drug-free society.
Sinha announced a mega Padyatra scheduled to begin on Sunday at the TRC Football Stadium in Srinagar.
In an open message, the LG said he is witnessing a strong public response against drug and narcotics abuse that has destroyed many lives and affected households and societies in recent times.
He urged citizens from all walks of life, especially the youth, to participate in the padyatra and take a decisive collective stand against drug peddlers and syndicates.
Sinha said, “Let us unite and work together to create a safer and healthier Jammu and Kashmir for future generations.”
He emphasised that the fight against drugs cannot succeed without active participation of the people, and its success depends on the support common citizens extend to police and enforcement agencies.
The padyatra is part of a broader initiative launched by the J&K administration to combat the rising epidemic of substance abuse.
According to estimates, nearly 1.3 million people aged 15-60 in Jammu and Kashmir are affected by drugs, with heroin, cannabis, and prescription drug abuse being the most common, especially among the youth.
