Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday conveyed their greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, to be observed on Sunday.
In his message, the LG Sinha said, “On the sacred occasion of Mahashivratri, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all. I pray for the health, happiness, and prosperity of every citizen.” He noted that the festival, celebrated as ‘Herath’ by the Kashmiri Pandit community, reflects deep spiritual traditions and communal harmony.
He said Mahashivratri holds special significance in people’s lives. The festival offers a moment to pause and reflect on the timeless virtues of Lord Shiva. He added that Lord Shiva’s teachings emphasise selfless service and devotion to humanity.
LG Sinha said the festival reminds everyone that each person has a responsibility to contribute to the well-being of society in their own unique way. In his message, Omar described Mahashivratri as a sacred festival that symbolises devotion, faith and spiritual awakening. He said it encourages people to walk the path of righteousness, harmony and compassion.
“On the blessed occasion of Mahashivratri, I convey my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all. May this sacred occasion bring peace, happiness and prosperity to every household,” Omar said.
He also prayed for stronger bonds of brotherhood, unity and communal harmony in the state. He expressed hope that the festival would bring progress and well-being to all.
