Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid rich tributes to Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala as Shia mourners took out a procession from Bota Kadal to Zadibal in Srinagar on Friday, officials said.
In his message, Sinha said, "The supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala remains a timeless beacon for humanity, upholding truth, justice and human dignity. Let us resolve to imbibe these universal ideals and work together to build a peaceful, progressive and equitable society."
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also shared an emotional message, stating that Karbala remains an eternal symbol of courage and resistance against injustice.
"The family of Imam Hussain, along with his devoted companions, upheld the highest ideals of faith, justice, compassion and human dignity through their supreme sacrifice. The message of Karbala transcends time and geography. It inspires humanity to stand firm in the face of injustice, uphold moral values, and safeguard the principles of truth and righteousness, irrespective of the challenges," the Chief Minister said.
Shia mourners observed Ashura (10th Muharram) in a peaceful manner as directed by the administration. The authorities had put in place a multi-tier security arrangement to ensure smooth and incident-free Ashura processions across various parts of the Kashmir Valley.
