Public participation in Jammu and Kashmir's ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan received a major boost as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined a mega padyatra in Ganderbal district on Friday.
The Lieutenant Governor arrived at Qamaria Ground in Ganderbal, where he was accorded a warm welcome by senior civil and police officials, youth, and students before leading the anti-substance abuse march.
The padyatra witnessed massive public support from all sections of society, with participants expressing their resolve to combat drug abuse, which has affected over 1.3 million people in J&K according to various estimates,.
The designated route saw active participation of youth and students carrying placards and spreading awareness about the harmful effects of narcotics.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha emphasised the need for active community participation in eradicating the drug menace.
He urged the people, especially the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, to stay away from narcotics and contribute towards building a healthier, drug-free society.
Recalling the alarming situation in April, LG Sinha had announced the launch of a 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan across Jammu and Kashmir.
During its launch, he had vowed that the administration would cripple drug networks, narco-terrorism modules, and syndicates operating in the region.
Since then, Sinha has led similar marches in multiple districts and personally appealed to citizens and assist the authorities in tackling the menace.
The padyatra in Ganderbal concluded with participants taking a renewed pledge to work collectively against drug addiction and spread awareness at the grassroots level.
