Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday led the 2026 International Yoga Day celebrations in Srinagar.
Addressing the gathering at SKICC on the banks of Dal Lake, he said yoga guides people towards a more holistic approach to health and happiness.
The region-wide celebrations focused on this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing", with the LG highlighting its role in combating rising stress and modern health challenges.
He noted the powerful and life-changing effects of yoga and said that regular practice is beneficial not only for physical health but also for mental well-being, as it improves overall lifestyle.
Yoga, he added, serves as a powerful tool to sustain energy, self-confidence and discipline.
He called upon all citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the yoga movement, stating that yoga is a science for humanity and not tied to any particular religion.
Mass celebrations were held across the region, including major events at Gandhi Nagar Women’s College in Jammu and in several other districts, bringing together officials, students, faculty and locals.
The Lieutenant Governor credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking India’s ancient tradition to the global stage and stressed that yoga goes beyond physical asanas to promote mental, physical and emotional balance.
