Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday performed the Pratham Puja at the holy cave of the Amarnath Shrine, marking the beginning of the annual pilgrimage. He sought the divine blessings of Baba Barfani and prayed for peace, prosperity, good health, and the well-being of all.
He extended a heartfelt invitation to devotees of Baba Barfani, encouraging them to visit the shrine during the yatra.
“The Yatra is set to commence on July 3, with the administration, the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, the Army, Police, security forces, the local community, service providers, and volunteers working in complete synergy. Every stakeholder is committed to ensuring a safe, hassle-free, and memorable pilgrimage for all pilgrims. With improved infrastructure, upgraded facilities, and the support of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, we are fully prepared to welcome pilgrims for the Yatra," he said.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) organises the Pratham Puja annually at the holy cave on Jyeshtha Purnima. This year's yatra will last 57 days and will commence simultaneously along two tracks—one via south Kashmir and the other via central Kashmir.
The yatra will culminate on August 28, 2026, on Raksha Bandhan.
According to officials, senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the civil administration, including DGP J&K, Nalin Prabhat; DGP, S.J.M. Gillani, Special DG Coordination PHQ; Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor and CEO Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board; Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Rahul Yadav, Managing Director JKPDCL and Nodal Officer for Baltal Axis; VK Birdi, IGP Kashmir; Rajiv Omprakashn, DIG CKR; Jatin Kishore, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal; Dr Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag; and Ms Shreya Singhal, Director Information, were among other dignitaries present at the event.
