Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reiterated his commitment to restoring statehood and full constitutional rights for Jammu and Kashmir in his address to the newly reconvened assembly, marking the first session in six years and the first since the revocation of Article 370.

Sinha emphasised that this pledge embodies the public’s trust in the democratic process, reaffirming the administration’s dedication to upholding and fortifying citizens’ faith in democratic institutions.

He also announced a provision of 200 units of free electricity for economically disadvantaged families, a relief aimed at mitigating hardships due to frequent winter power outages.

Additionally, Sinha assured the assembly of the government’s commitment to the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits, with ongoing work on their accommodations being expedited.

The session, however, witnessed significant disruptions as BJP MLAs staged protests against a resolution from PDP leader Waheed Parra seeking the reinstatement of Article 370.

Responding to the resolution, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah downplayed its significance, stating, “The PDP's resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Article 370 has no value other than that it was done for the cameras.”
