JKPDP legislator Waheed Parra on Tuesday expressed his disappointment over LG Manoj Sinha’s inaugural address to the Jammu and Kashmir assembly.

The address was a routine document and had no mention of pressing issues like unemployment and job guarantees and criticised its lack of seriousness.

Addressing the media gathering here in Jammu, he highlighted that LG’s first address originally reflected the vision of the J-K government.

Parra said, “After a long time, a government has been formed in Jammu and Kashmir; we had hopes that as per the aspirations of the people, the promises NC had made to people in its manifesto, it would be reflected in their vision document.”

“Unfortunately, this looks like a routine document from LG, which has been presented for the last five years. Unemployment, job guarantees act, political prisoners—nothing was spoken on those issues,” he said.

“This was a very disappointing document that the LG read yesterday. We hoped that the political issues of J&K would be mentioned, but it had none,” Parra added.

LG Sinha addressed the inaugural session of the J-K Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session on Monday.

Manoj Sinha said that his government is steadfast in its commitment to the Union Territory’s statehood and is actively engaging with all stakeholders to facilitate this process.

Meanwhile, as expected, the JK assembly witnessed its disruption immediately after LG Sinha started his formal address.

MLA Langate and the brother of jailed MP engineer Rashid raised placards denouncing the killings of civilians in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and demanded a judicial probe. He was then marshalled out of the house.

While addressing the assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah praised former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, highlighting his contributions to India’s economic growth and key welfare initiatives.

“Manmohan Singh ji was born in undivided India. He went to Oxford and Cambridge and started as an officer and finance minister and then PM. When he became finance minister, our country was going through an economic crisis.

Today we are the biggest economies of India. Today, the private sector is developing as the license raj was stopped. As PM, he took Indira Awas Yojana and MGNREGA initiatives,” Omar Abdullah said.
