Light rain was recorded across various parts of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, while isolated higher-altitude areas in Lahaul and Spiti received fresh snowfall, officials said.
The local Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Sunday, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h across all 12 districts. An orange alert has also been issued for heavy rain, hailstorms, and thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts.
Hansa in Lahaul and Spiti reported 5 cm of snowfall. Hail was witnessed in Sundernagar, while thunderstorms occurred in Shimla, Kalpa, Bhuntar, Sundernagar, Kangra, Jot, and Palampur since Friday evening.
Due to continuous rainfall in Lahaul and Spiti recently, the local police have warned of the potential for a sudden rise in water levels in rivers and drains and urged residents to avoid going near water bodies.
Tissa in Chamba recorded the highest rainfall at 19.3 mm, followed by Kukumseri (15.8 mm), Bhuntar (14 mm), Seobagh (13 mm), Keylong (8 mm), Brahmani (7.2 mm), Olinda (7 mm), Manali and Kalpa (6 mm each), Murari Devi (5.8 mm), Jot (4.8 mm), and Sundernagar (4 mm).
The Met office has forecast a wet spell continuing in the state through April 22 (Tuesday).
Keylong remained the coldest with a minimum temperature of 1°C, while Una was the hottest during the day, recording a high of 36.8°C.
Despite recent showers, the state continues to face a 39% rain deficit during the current pre-monsoon season, having received only 96.4 mm of rainfall compared to the normal 156.8 mm from March 1 to April 19.
