Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed by a lightning strike at a training centre in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Friday. The incident occurred around 3 pm during a training session at the Barsoor police station area.
Constables Mahendra Kumar and S. Sahuat Alam, from the CRPF’s 111th battalion, were struck by lightning and sustained severe injuries.
They were transported to the Dantewada hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival.
Kumar was from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, while Alam hailed from Sahibganj in Jharkhand. Their families have been notified of the tragedy.
This incident follows a similar occurrence on Thursday, when a CRPF jawan was killed by lightning in neighbouring Bijapur district during an anti-Naxal operation.
The CRPF is heavily involved in anti-Naxal operations across south Bastar, including Dantewada, Sukma, and Bijapur districts.
