Haryana State Commission for Women Chairperson Renu Bhatia has said that live-in relationships are a curse for society and there is a need to appreciate and practice traditional cultural values and customs among the young generation.
The statement came during the hearing of women-related cases at the district headquarters. She also added that parents must understand the values of old age traditions and they should inculcate them in children as those values are sound pillars of society.
The education system should also ensure that important traditional values are passed to the next generation in a manner that youngsters stay away from norms that are harmful to society. With this, Bhatia added, the trend of live-in relationships targets mostly women in society.
She further commented on same-sex marriage and said the system of marrying two daughters in the same family had also resulted in negative fallouts as the complaints of victimisation and exploitation had been seen as a common issue in such cases.
Bhatia cleared the stance of the Haryana Women's Commission and its dedication towards protecting women's rights and dignity. She said the state commission would not desist from taking prompt action against any incident of victimisation.
The meeting held on Thursday disposed of 12 pending cases of grievances and stated that the commission had been playing an active role in understanding the problems and resolving the issues related to women across the state.
DSPs Mahender Singh, Suresh Bhadana, Narender Kumar, Naresh Kumar, One Stop Centre in charge Sapna, Anu Rana, Alpana Mittal along with the police station in-charge concerned and the complainants were present in the meeting.
