The Lokayukta has uncovered assets worth over Rs 30 crore belonging to Kalakappa Nidagundi, a former daily-wage clerk at the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) in Koppal, Karnataka. Nidagundi, who earned a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, is now under investigation for disproportionate assets.
Lokayukta officials, acting on a complaint, conducted a raid that revealed a vast amount of property. The assets include 24 residential houses, four land plots, and 40 acres of agricultural land, all registered under his name, as well as those of his wife and her brother. The officials also seized 350 grams of gold jewelry, 1.5 kilograms of silver ornaments, and four vehicles, which include two cars and two two-wheelers.
Nidagundi, along with former KRIDL engineer ZM Chincholkar, is accused of a larger scam involving the alleged misappropriation of more than Rs 72 crore. The accusation states that the two fabricated documents and created fake bills for 96 infrastructure projects that were never completed.
Koppal MLA K. Raghavendra Hitnal has confirmed that the government is taking the matter seriously and will conduct a thorough inquiry to ensure appropriate action is taken.
