Andhra Pradesh is planning to establish India’s first dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) university, according to state Education, IT, and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh. The Minister, currently on a visit to Australia, also announced that an AI curriculum is being introduced from the high school level, supported by new AI and Robotics Labs being established across government schools.

Lokesh did a series of strategic meetings with top universities, business leaders, and innovation experts across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The goal was to strengthen the state’s global education partnerships, investment prospects, and sports infrastructure development.

According to the Minister’s office, at the Education Roundtable hosted by Queensland Trade and Investment, he highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s pioneering education reforms. The Minister noted that the state is successfully integrating AI into governance to improve public services in education, healthcare, and welfare delivery. The meeting included participation from officials representing Queensland’s education sector.

Lokesh also met Vice President (Global) Marnie Watson and toured the university's state-of-the-art sports facilities. He suggested establishing a Griffith University India Centre in Andhra Pradesh to facilitate student exchange, collaborative research, and academic engagement.

He also urged the university to partner with the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and leading Andhra institutions, such as SRM–AP, Andhra University, and VIT–AP, for dual-degree programmes, syllabus co-design, and skill certification aligned with global standards. He also invited Griffith University to participate in the upcoming Partnership Summit – 2025 and AP Global Education Forum in November.

In Brisbane, Lokesh took part in a high-level Business Roundtable organised by the Consulate General of India and the Australia-India Business Council (AIBC).

Lokesh highlighted Andhra Pradesh's change of fortunes under the stewardship of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, citing more than ₹10 lakh crore worth of fresh investments in the last 16 months, including sizeable commitments by Google and ArcelorMittal. He extended an invitation to Australian investors to realise the industry-friendly policies of the state and visit the Partnership Summit – 2025 at Visakhapatnam.

The Minister met Professor Cal Zenger from James Cook University’s Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture, discussing collaboration in aquaculture genetics.

Lokesh also met top representatives of Populous, the internationally acclaimed sports architecture practice that has designed iconic venues like London's Olympic Stadium and Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. Lokesh extended an invitation to the practice to share designs and knowledge for Andhra Pradesh's ambitious Sports Hub Vision under Chief Minister Naidu.
