The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has given its approval to a draft bill for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) at a meeting held in Jagdishpur on Sunday. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of the state Mohan Yadav. Madhya Pradesh will be the fourth state in India after which the UCC will see progress in terms of being passed as a common code applicable in regard to personal laws such as marriage, divorce, succession and property among others.

The approval was termed as a landmark decision both for the state and the nation by the ministers. According to Minister Rakesh Singh, the approval is a very vital step forward because although there were other states that had adopted the same road as well, now Madhya Pradesh is taking the same road. The most essential aspects of the UCC include providing equal opportunities to all the citizens without discriminating against any. Minister Nirmala Bhuria of the cabinet termed the approval as an extremely good decision.

Even the selection of the venue for the meeting received accolades from the ministers in the cabinet. Uikey commended the Chief Minister for holding the meeting at Jagdishpur and said that the place represented their dream of developing through heritage. The minister referred to the history of the fort in the region constructed by their ancestors and said that the Chief Minister has allotted £1 million (10 crore rupees) for the restoration of the fort. Uikey further said that it was really a great achievement to pass a bill of such national importance in Jagdishpur.

In preparation for the forthcoming assembly meeting, Pratima Bagri, the Cabinet Minister, stated that the UCC will promote harmony because the citizens would be treated as equals in front of the law. She appreciated Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for having taken a legislative stance to bring an end to historical injustices and oppressive traditional practices, as evidenced by "Triple Talaq" and others. In full concurrence with the process, she assured the citizens of Madhya Pradesh that they will accept the code. Once the discussion came to an end, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav congratulated his cabinet ministers and all the citizens for successfully implementing the Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2026.
