A new development has emerged in Uttarakhand’s alleged ‘Land Jihad’ case, with officials saying that the disputed land once linked to a proposed Muslim university was later sold to Hindu buyers after being transferred several times.

The twist surfaced in Dehradun during an inquiry into nearly 20 acres owned by the Shekhul-Hind Trust. The district administration has now started action to seal 4.192 bigha of the land, citing violations of land laws of the state.

The land, located around 15 km from the Indian Military Academy (IMA), was bought in 2004 after permission was granted to run a madrasa school on it.

However, officials stated that the land rules were not followed, and the matter eventually reached the High Court. The court observed that the government could not take over the land, but made it clear that the trust could sell it only as agricultural land.

In 2016, the trust sought permission to sell the land. The government replied that any sale must strictly be for agricultural use. According to officials, the trust later sold the land as agricultural property to 15 members of the Muslim community.

In 2022, these buyers reportedly further divided the land into smaller plots and sold them to nearly 70 to 80 Hindu buyers. Officials now claim that this division and sale of plots violated existing land laws.

The administration has started proceedings under Sections 166 and 167 of the UPZA and LR Act. Notices have been issued, and steps are being taken to vest the land in the government.

Officials said the action is based strictly on alleged violations related to land use and illegal transfer.
