The Uttar Pradesh Information Department has reported that, as of Friday morning, over 296.4 million (29 crore) devotees have visited Prayagraj to take a sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam during the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025.
Among the 296.4 million devotees, more than 1 million Kalpwasis participated, while over 3.3 million pilgrims had already taken the dip.
The number continues to rise, with the event drawing immense crowds from across the nation and beyond.
The Mahakumbh is considered one of the most sacred religious occasion among the Hindus, with devotees from different parts of India and the world travelling to Prayagraj to experience the divinity of the moment.
One devotee from Telangana expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to witness the event, stating, “We get just one chance to be born as a human being and we are very lucky to be able to witness this Mahakumbh Mela.”
He further commended the government’s management of the event, highlighting the availability of essential facilities like drinking water, transportation, sanitation, and women’s safety measures.
“I would urge every proud Hindu to come and attend it. The government’s efforts are appreciable,” he added.
Another foreign devotee from Nepal shared his experience, contrasting it with the negative rumours circulating before the event. “The experience was very good as compared to the rumours we had heard... It felt peaceful,” he said.
Local devotee Riya, from Lucknow, found the experience surreal and expressed, “The snan was amazing. This is such a good opportunity for our generation. The arrangements are not bad. We are not facing any problems.”
Bablu from Bihar, who also attended the event, praised the grand arrangements and declared the dip to be a fulfilling experience.
Meanwhile, Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar addressed concerns regarding vehicle entry into the city during the event.
He clarified that there would be 'no restrictions' on vehicle entry on January 31, February 1, and February 4.
“A news is viral on social media that the entry of vehicles in Prayagraj will be restricted till February 4. This news is completely baseless,” he stated.
The divergent scheme would only be applied on February 2 and 3 during the Vasant Panchami snan.
The police have been instructed to remove the barricades, and vehicles will be allowed entry in the Commissionerate area as usual.
On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh government announced that VIP movement would be restricted on major bathing days, including Vasant Panchami, Magh Purnima, and Mahashivratri, to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
A three-member judicial commission has already commenced its investigation into the tragic stampede that occurred during the Mauni Amavasya snan, which resulted in the deaths of 30 people and over 60 injuries.
The commission has been tasked with determining the causes of the incident and recommending measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The Mahakumbh, which started on January 13, will continue until February 26. Key 'snan' dates remaining are February 3 (Basant Panchami - Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
