Maharashtra Minister of Women and Child Welfare Aditi Tatkare announced on Monday that the state government has received more than 2.40 crore applications under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana.
“Of the 2.40 crore applications, nearly 1.70 crore submitted in July have already received financial aid in August. Additionally, another 52 lakh women were provided assistance during a programme held in Nagpur on August 31,” Tatkare said.
The state government has extended the application deadline until the end of September due to the high volume of responses from eligible women.
The scheme provides a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500, with over Rs 4,500 crore already disbursed. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has pledged to increase the aid to Rs 3,000 if the MahaYuti government is re-elected in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Tatkare also noted that women who have received financial aid for July and August will soon receive September’s payments. “The government is currently scrutinising the applications received so far and those submitted in September. We anticipate that over 2 crore women will be eligible for aid, with a target to reach 2.50 crore beneficiaries,” she added.
Chief Minister Shinde, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, has assured that the Ladki Bahin scheme will continue indefinitely. Shinde emphasised that sufficient planning and funding have been allocated for the programme’s continuation.
