The Maharashtra government has reinstated IPS officer Rashmi Shukla as Director General of Police (DGP) and head of the state police force following the conclusion of the assembly elections, according to an order issued by the state home department on Monday evening.
Shukla had been removed from the post on the directive of the Election Commission of India before the polls, following a demand by Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole.
Senior IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Verma was appointed as interim DGP and held the position until the electoral process was completed.
During this period, Shukla was placed on compulsory leave as outlined in a previous government order.
However, with the election results declared on Sunday and the Model Code of Conduct officially lifted on Monday, the government has ended her enforced leave and directed her to resume her duties as DGP. Verma has now handed over the charge back to Shukla.
The digitally signed government order confirming this development has been published on the Maharashtra government’s official website.
