A Mohali court extended the judicial remand of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Saturday in connection with a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Majithia was produced in court after the completion of his 14-day remand. He is currently lodged in New Nabha Jail, Patiala and will be produced in court again on August 2.
The court had remanded Majithia to 14-day judicial custody on July 6 after the completion of his four-day police remand. The Vigilance Bureau had arrested Majithia from his Amritsar house on June 25 and brought him to Mohali the next day. The court first sent him in seven-day Vigilance Bureau remand on June 26 and extended the remand by four days on July 2.
During his remand, Majithia was taken to Gorakhpur (UP) and Delhi to gather evidence pertaining to Saraya Industries. The 49-year-old SAD leader had moved the high court against the assets case registered against him on July 1, calling it “political witch-hunting and vendetta” for being a vocal opponent of the policies of the AAP government.
