Speculation about a major organisational revamp in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gained momentum on Monday after party president Nitin Nabin cut short his ongoing Punjab visit.
As per the original schedule, Nabin was supposed to return to Chandigarh from Ludhiana on Monday, meet Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, and attend a dinner hosted by Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon at his Sector 9 residence before flying back to Delhi at night. However, the visit has now been curtailed, and he is expected to return to New Delhi from Ludhiana on Monday afternoon.
According to sources, some important organisational review meetings are scheduled in Delhi on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned from the G7 summit and is free after the International Yoga Day event in Kolkata.
A key meeting with senior BJP and RSS leaders was held on June 15, believed to be aimed at revamping the party’s organisational structure. A final nod from the Prime Minister was awaited as he was away for the G7 summit in France.
Sources familiar with the development said a revamp of the BJP is overdue and is expected to be announced soon. During his stay in Ludhiana, Nabin met prominent agriculturist Sardara Singh Johl and discussed Punjab’s agrarian crisis.
