A car reportedly driven by masked man crashed the barrier and entered the main complex of Delhi Assembly on Monday afternoon.

A major security scare unfolded at the Delhi Assembly on Monday after a masked man drove an SUV through an iron gate, entered the premises, placed a flower bouquet outside the Speaker’s office, and fled, prompting a high alert. Police later detained three persons, including the driver, and seized the vehicle from north Delhi.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 2 pm when the vehicle, bearing a Uttar Pradesh registration number, broke through Gate No. 2 and entered the Assembly complex. The gate, not being the main entrance, reportedly had relatively lighter security deployment as the House was not in session.

“The driver proceeded towards the office of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and placed a flower bouquet near the porch before rushing out in his vehicle,” a Delhi Secretariat official said.

The unusual sequence of events triggered immediate concern, with authorities treating the episode as a serious security breach. Multiple police teams, along with a bomb disposal squad and dog squad, were rushed to the spot to secure the area and rule out any potential threat.

Senior police officers, including Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ravindra Yadav, reached the Assembly complex soon after the incident and supervised the investigation. CCTV footage from within and around the premises was examined to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify the vehicle and its occupants.

Police launched a coordinated search operation, alerting neighbouring states and sharing details of the suspected vehicle with local police units. The SUV was later tracked down in north Delhi, where three individuals, including the driver, were detained. “Three people have been detained. The car was recovered, and the accused were caught in north Delhi,” a police officer said.

Meanwhile, forensic experts examined the flower bouquet placed near the Speaker’s office as part of precautionary measures. The bomb disposal squad conducted a thorough sweep of the Assembly premises to rule out the possibility of any explosive device. Officials confirmed that no suspicious material was found.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over security arrangements at the Assembly complex, particularly at secondary entry points. Authorities are expected to review existing protocols and strengthen surveillance to prevent similar breaches.

The scare comes close on the heels of bomb threats received by the Assembly during the recently concluded budget session, adding to concerns over the security of key government installations in the national capital.
