In a significant political development, several leaders from different parties joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Rajbir Ghuman, facilitated the joining of nearly three dozen sarpanches, panches and senior leaders from the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP.
As per an official release, those who joined the party included Punjab Congress Vice President (SC Wing) Sahib Singh Chhajjalwaddi and District Women Congress President (Amritsar Rural) Sarabjit Kaur, and several other Congress leaders.
OSD to the Chief Minister Rajveer Singh Ghuman formally inducted the leaders into the AAP in the presence of party functionaries.
The newly inducted leaders stated that they were impressed by the people-centric policies of the Punjab government led by CM Mann and decided to join the party. Chairman of the Punjab Khadi Welfare Board, Gagandeep Singh Ahuwalia, was also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, AAP released its list of star campaigners for the upcoming Assembly polls in Kerala and Assam. The list includes senior leaders such as party convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who will lead the party’s campaign outreach.
As per a press statement, the list issued on Sunday features senior leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Satyendar Jain, along with Members of Parliament Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh and Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer.
Kerala in-charge Shelly Oberoi has also been named among the key campaigners. The list further includes former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj, and former ministers Gopal Rai and Imran Hussain. Gujarat leaders Isudan Gadhvi and Gopal Italia also figure in the campaign roster.
The announcement comes as Kerala and Assam prepare for Assembly polls scheduled to be held in a single phase on April 9. Counting of votes will take place on May 4 under the Model Code of Conduct enforced by the Election Commission.
