On Tuesday, five personnel of the elite CoBRA battalion stationed at Baliba camp fell suddenly ill. Medical examinations confirmed severe symptoms of malaria in all five jawans.

Security forces engaged in anti-Naxal operations in the Saranda Forest of Jharkhand are currently battling multiple challenges simultaneously. While intensifying operations against insurgents, personnel are also grappling with the constant threat of IEDs, extreme heat, and now a rapidly spreading malaria outbreak that is affecting troops on the ground.

The dense and rugged terrain of the forest has made prolonged search operations particularly difficult. In recent days, the increasing mosquito menace in the area has led to a rise in health complications among the jawans deployed in remote camps.

On Tuesday, five personnel of the elite CoBRA battalion stationed at Baliba camp fell suddenly ill. Medical examinations confirmed severe symptoms of malaria in all five jawans.

Considering the seriousness of their condition, authorities swiftly airlifted them to Ranchi, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Earlier, during a visit by CRPF Special Director General Deepak Kumar, another constable, identified as Anil Biswal, had collapsed and was immediately airlifted to Ranchi for medical care.

The growing spread of malaria amid ongoing operations has emerged as a serious concern for security agencies. Officials fear that the increasing number of personnel falling ill could impact both the pace and effectiveness of the anti-Naxal campaign in the region.

In a tragic development, a 42-year-old jawan from Assam, Anand Singha, succumbed to malaria during treatment, underscoring the severity of the situation.

Despite these mounting challenges, security forces continue their operations while taking additional precautions to safeguard the health of personnel. However, the harsh conditions of the forest terrain and the prevailing weather continue to complicate efforts on the ground.
