West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday termed the recent landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, a "grave disaster" and expressed her condolences to the victims' families.

In a statement issued on Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that Rajya Sabha MPs Saket Gokhale and Sushmita Dev will visit Wayanad in Kerala following the devastating landslides.

To aid those affected, she announced that two Trinamool Congress MPs, Saket Gokhale and Sushmita Dev, will be dispatched to the impacted areas.

The MPs are set to spend two days in Wayanad, offering assistance and support to the grieving families.

"We are greatly perturbed by the news of the Wayanad landslides. It is indeed a grave disaster. On humanitarian grounds, we are sending a team of our MPs—Saket Gokhale and Sushmita Dev—to the affected areas," she stated.

The MPs will spend two days in Wayanad, providing full assistance and support to the families impacted by the tragedy.

"I extend my condolences to the families of the victims and my support and solidarity to all those affected," Banerjee added in her statement.

The Chief Minister's announcement coincides with the visit of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, who have reached Chooralmala, one of the regions hardest hit by the floods and landslides.

The landslides, which struck two days ago, have claimed 295 lives and injured over 200 individuals, with rescue operations ongoing and the death toll expected to rise.
