West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee is set to hold another meeting with councillors of her Bhawanipore Assembly constituency on Friday evening. According to party sources, the meeting will take place at her Kalighat residence at 6 pm.

Only the elected councillors of the eight Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) wards that fall under Mamata’s Bhawanipore Assembly constituency have been asked to attend. These wards are 63, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 77 and 82.

Party insiders said the meeting assumes significance as councillors play a crucial role at the grassroots level, particularly in organisational work, delivery of civic services and coordination with the administration. The Chief Minister is believed to be keen on directly assessing the ground situation in these areas through interactions with the elected representatives.

This is not the first time Mamata has convened a meeting focused on Bhawanipore in recent months. On December 16 last year, during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list exercise in Bengal, she had held a meeting with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of the constituency. At that time, concerns were raised within the party that the names of over 40,000 voters from Bhawanipore might be excluded following the publication of the draft electoral roll. The meeting was reportedly aimed at alerting party workers and urging them to intensify field-level activity.

The renewed focus on Bhawanipore within a month has sparked political interest. A section of the party views Friday’s meeting as strategically important, especially in the context of the ongoing SIR process and the upcoming Assembly elections. A TMC councillor said he was contacted on Friday morning and instructed to attend the meeting.

Political observers believe the discussions are likely to revolve around ward-wise organisational strength, civic issues, voter list-related challenges, implementation of party programmes and coordination with the administration. Sources also indicated that councillors may be asked to share their on-ground experiences and feedback related to the SIR exercise.

Bhawanipore, being Mamata’s own Assembly constituency, has traditionally received close attention from the Chief Minister. Political circles suggest that the meeting could play a key role in strengthening the party’s organisational preparedness in the area ahead of the elections.
