Mamata warns PM Modi: Beware of Amit Shah, 'a Mir Jafar’

As the state assembly elections draw near, political tensions are rising across West Bengal. On her return from North Bengal this afternoon, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee delivered a pointed message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, warning him not to trust Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah blindly.

Addressing at Kolkata Airport on Wednesday while returning from flood-hit North Bengal, Mamata said, “Don’t trust Amit Shah in everything. If you trust too much, you may face consequences like the Mir Jafar episode!”

The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid recent controversy surrounding an Election Commission directive that mandates the Special Investigation Report (SIR) be completed within 15 days. Taking a dig at the Commission, Mamata asked rhetorically, “Is the Commission acting as the BJP says?”

She then added, “Actually, everything is being done on the orders of Amit Shah. It seems that he is now the acting Prime Minister!”

Mamata’s warning to PM Modi underscored her criticism of the BJP’s internal dynamics.

"I am sorry, but I have to say this. I will tell the Prime Minister, beware of Amit Shah! Do not trust him in everything. He is the biggest Mir Jafar,” she said.

Political analysts suggest that Mamata’s remarks were aimed at highlighting perceived internal dissent within the BJP and questioning Modi’s excessive reliance on Shah. Observers are now closely watching for any response from Delhi to this sharp critique.
