A 26-year-old man lost his life in a tragic road accident in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district early Sunday morning after his vehicle fell into a deep gorge, officials said.
The accident took place around 3 am near Nangan village in the Barkot area. The deceased, identified as Santosh Ram, was a resident of Syalab village and was on his way to Barkot in a Bolero SUV when the vehicle reportedly lost control and veered off the road.
The police said the vehicle plunged into a gorge approximately 70 to 80 metres deep. Santosh died on the spot due to the impact.
A joint team of police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the location shortly after receiving the alert and recovered the body from the ravine.
The authorities have once again urged motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving in hilly terrain, particularly during night hours.
