A fast track special court under the POCSO Act in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district has sentenced a man to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a child protection case. The court also awarded him two years of rigorous imprisonment under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Himachal Pradesh Police headquarters, the judgment was delivered by the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track Special Court (POCSO), Dharamshala, on July 30. The convicted person has been identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Barota village in Kangra district.
The court sentenced the accused to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 8 of the POCSO Act. If the fine is not paid, he will have to undergo an additional one month of simple imprisonment.
The court also awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 333 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Failure to pay the fine will attract an additional one month of simple imprisonment.
Section 333 of the BNS deals with house trespass committed after making preparations to cause injury, assault, wrongful restraint or fear of such harm.
The case is linked to an FIR registered on July 17, 2025, at Indora Police Station in Nurpur police district. The case was registered under Sections 333, 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 8 of the POCSO Act.
Himachal Pradesh Police said it remains committed to ensuring thorough investigation and effective prosecution in crimes against children. The department added that strict action will continue to be taken against offenders in accordance with the law.
