Himachal Pradesh has been transformed into a picturesque winter wonderland due to heavy snowfall this month. However, the snow has also caused significant challenges for both locals and tourists.
Icy roads have made driving extremely dangerous, leading to several incidents in the region.
Truck skids off in Manali
A recent video shows a small truck sliding uncontrollably down a snow-covered road in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The vehicle eventually plunged into the Solang Valley. The incident occurred during heavy snowfall, making the roads particularly treacherous.
The driver of the truck narrowly escaped tragedy by jumping out as the vehicle began to skid. Although he tried to stop the truck, he too slipped on the icy road. Within moments, the truck tumbled into the valley below.
Similar incident near Lahaul-Spiti valley
Earlier this month, another incident occurred near the Atal Tunnel, which connects Manali to the Lahaul-Spiti Valley. A Mahindra Thar lost control on a snow-covered road and skidded off. Fortunately, the driver managed to jump out in time, avoiding injury.

Tourists stranded in heavy snow
This week’s fresh spell of Himachal Pradesh snowfall caused major disruptions in Manali. Around 1,000 vehicles were stuck between Solang and the Atal Tunnel due to heavy snow. Approximately 5,000 tourists were stranded, prompting Kullu police to launch a large-scale rescue operation. Officials worked tirelessly to guide vehicles and ensure everyone’s safety.
“Due to fresh snowfall, about 1,000 tourists and other vehicles were stuck in Solang Nala. There were about 5,000 tourists in these vehicles. The vehicles and tourists have been rescued by Kullu Police and taken to safe places. The rescue operation is still going on,” the police announced in a statement.
