A 45-year-old man was killed in an alleged mob attack in Jharkhand’s Chatra district, with police describing the incident as a clear case of lynching sparked by suspicion.
The deceased, Rambali Rajwar, hailed from Barwatoli village, which comes under the Ramgarh police station area in Ramgarh district. He was reportedly targeted on suspicion of being a child-lifter.
The incident occurred late on Sunday night within the limits of Piparwar police station, where residents of Chiraiyatand and Kichto villages allegedly assaulted him.
Police said Rajwar had gone to the area on Sunday night when a group of people attacked him. After being alerted, a team from Piparwar police station reached the spot, rescued him, and took him to Bachra Regional Hospital for immediate medical attention.
As his condition worsened, he was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for advanced treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, he succumbed to his injuries.
Officials said a First Information Report (FIR) will be lodged in connection with the incident. They added that more clarity would emerge after the post-mortem examination report is received. No arrests have been made so far.
Police have launched a detailed investigation and are working to identify those involved in the assault, reiterating that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators.
